JOHN HIGGINS MBE

The professional Scottish snooker player John Higgins is this year returning to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield between 21 April and 7 May 2012 to defend his title as the World's Champion.

John turned professional in 1992 and by the 1994/95 season he was the first teenager to win three ranking events in a season, by the time he was 34 he was the oldest player to triumph in the World Championship since Dennis Taylor in 1985 who was then 36.

In 1998 John became World No 1 for the first time ending the reign of Stephen Hendry. His phenomenal career went from strength to strength and the following season he won the Masters and UK Championships and became the third player after Davis and Hendry to hold the Triple Crown of the World, UK and Masters titles at the same time. Nine years after becoming World Champion for the first time he claimed the title again by beating Mark Selby and scored his hat trick two years later with a win over Shaun Murphy. By now he was the ninth player to win the title three or more times. It's no surprise then that he went on to win a third UK Championship and the No 1 spot yet again in 2010.

He was awarded the MBE in the 2008 New Year Honours List.
John is based in Lanarkshire and is affectionately known as "The Wishaw Wizard". He is married to Denise and they have three children. He is an avid Celtic FC supporter and follows Everton. He enjoys playing poker and is quite a personality having appeared on TV shows. He appeared on BBC 2's Celebrity Mastermind in January 2010 answering questions on his specialist subject Dallas and a month later he and wife won £90,000 on the Mr & Mrs programme, they donated the money to charity.

Negotiate Now in Glasgow are proud to be sponsoring John who agreed to sign a three year contract and, along with the company, campaigns to create employment in the unemployment blackspots of Lanarkshire.

It will be a great credit to a great sportsman if he wins this year's tournament and will be World Champion for the fifth time. Fingers crossed ....................
